22nd June 2024 - VOICES FROM THE NEW WORLD
22/06/2024 19:30A concert celebrating the wide diversity of classical music from the Americas. We open with Arturo Marquez's celebration of his native Mexico with his famous "Danzon no.2". We then follow with a piece from "the dean of American music" Aaron Copland- "The Tender Land Suite". Lastly, we present the beautiful, romantically inspired Symphony no. 1 by Florence Beatrice Price. The piece was Price's first full-scale orchestral composition and was the first symphony by a Black woman to be performed by a major American orchestra (the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1933)
